Cancer Bulletin Board Note
I was always amazed and uplifted to see a man on the bulletin board as I shuffled along the hallway of the cancer ward. From “Tiger, Tiger,” Chapter 10, page 74: “A postcard showing a former patient standing poolside, somewhere warm, always deserves another look. He is healthy and has hair, and I am certain the plastic cup in his hand holds beer. He is alive and well, and I smile at him. I plan to post a photo of me too when I am well – hopefully one from a tropical paradise.”
For the past 17 years, I have posted an annual photo of myself outside on my transplant birthday, 3 February. Most of them show me in snow, which I am told, brings disbelief and laughter from the many patients that have viewed me outside in my swimsuit.
